The aromatic white grape, Kerner (pronounced "KEHR-nuhr), is the result of efforts at a plant breeding station in Germany, in 1929, between Trollinger and Riesling varietals. Ripening in early October, it is capable of being grown in less favourable conditions and, in particular, in cool-climate applications.
Classic Kerner fruity flavours with aromas of floral, marzipan, green apples, and pears. Complex, with a Riesling edge. Pairs well with pasta with cream or clam sauce, spicy food, and beautiful with pork tenderloin and lamb.
Recent awards for Kerner, include Silver from the 2017 Savour NW Wine Competition, as well as the Judges' Pick at the Sip Northwest Best of the Northwest Competition.
